IV Velo Club Members Chad Leptich and Jaime Hernandez have been busy raising money and preparing their butts for an assault on sanity this coming November 5. They’ve plunked down $900 each for the chance to ride their mountain bikes 300 miles climbing 24,000 feet in this death defying cycling interlude. Too Much Fun Promotions, run by Armando Carrasco, promises to make this a world-class event and is working on TV coverage. Wish Chad and Jaime well. They could probably use some more Arnica cream for sore legs by now.
Starting Wednesday, June 25, the weekday training ride in El Centro will be starting at 5:45 a.m. at the usual place--Advanced Eye Care on Ross just west of LaBrucherie. It's an early hour, true, but we want to beat the heat. Some local cyclists do that ride and still get to work by 8:00 a.m.
The Sunday group ride start time has also been changed. For summer weather, we'll start at 6:00 a.m. from Del Taco in El Centro, or from the downtown Port of Entry in Calexico. Each group will rendezvous at 6:30 a.m. at the corner of Farrell and Highway 98 before continuing west on Highway 98 toward the Oasis. See Group Ride Tab for more details about rides.
